Art

During the Harlem Renaissance, black culture flourished. In the areas of literature, music, and art, African Americans were expressing themselves more freely, confidently, and triumphantly than they ever had in the past. Some of the most prominent artists of the Harlem Renaissance include Aaron Douglass, Hale Woodruff, Edward Burra, Jacob Lawrence, Palmer Hayden, and William Johnson. The art of the time expressed the feelings and hopes of African Americans in the early nineteen-hundreds. For this activity, you will act as an art critic studying the work of the Harlem Renaissance. You will view a slide show of art created by Harlem Renaissance artists. Then you will select one of these works and write a short review.
